Church Growth Services Inc., as a Christian ministry was started in July 1994 by Dr. Francis Bola Akin-John. He was then pastoring a denominational Church. Prior to that time, God told him in 1984 while praying that you will do Church growth in Nigeria . He starred attending schools, both secular and theological in preparation for the fulfillment of the assignment.By 1994, which was exactly ten years later, God told him to start.

He wrote some few resources on Church growth then, mainly out of his experiences as a pastor and some little researches done. The beginning was tough.
There were lots of persecution, misrepresentation and misunderstanding both from within and outside his denominational circle. Many of his leaders were at a loss as to why the young man was hell bent on teaching Church growth in Nigeria , knowing that nobody had done such thing before in Nigeria . However, he was able to whether the storm of opposition due to his single minded approach.

He started conducting seminars by faith on 1st December, 1994. In the first seminar, 23 pastors were present and he has not looked back since then. He eventually resigned from his denominational Church in October, 1996 and became a full time Church Growth teacher and Consultant.

He started African Institute of Church Growth in March, 1996 with ten students. Eventually, 36 students (pastors) graduated in the first graduation conducted. This Institute has been used by the Lord to train and retrain Pastors, General Overseers, Church leaders and workers from various denominations with attendant testimonies of growth and turn-around in their lives and ministries.

The ministry started with less than one thousand Naira and few resources, without help coming from anywhere. But today, it has really grown to having numerous resources and offering financial, material and moral support to pastors, Churches and individuals.

Today, this humble beginning has turned to blessing in disguise. The ministry has become a household name among pastors and Church leaders across Africa and beyond.
